does caffeine cause acne

The short answer to the question ‘does caffeine cause acne?’ is no, there is no scientific evidence that caffeine directly causes acne. Although there are many arguments that caffeine can affect people who suffer from acne, and many people find that when caffeine is cut out of their diet, their acne improves.

We should remember that the majority of people who suffer with acne are in their teenage years, and do not yet rely on an early morning coffee fix to get them going. Many teenagers have a low caffeine intake which is one of the reasons that caffeine is not proven to directly affect those who suffer from acne.

Seems like a great post… But it is so difficult to avoid acne then because so many products contain caffeine.

Another method caffeine can use to make acne worse is by releasing norepinepherine into the nervous system. This increases heart rate, anxiety, stress, etc and usually results in more oil on your face. Never a good thing!!!

. My adult acne has been horrible for years. I’ve been to a dermatologist and tried everything except accutane. I couldn’t understand why my acne flared up as an adult, and not during my teen years. My blood tests showed normal hormones and normal glucose levels.

And then I thought, why is it that when I’m sick for a few days my skin starts clearing? Why does my acne get worse when I’m sleep deprived?

It all came down to tea and coffee. Since I started college I started drinking tea and coffee. So as an experiment I quit tea, coffee, chocolates and all caffeine and my skin has never been clearer!

Don’t buy the hype about green tea either. Just stay away from caffeine period.

And lack of scientific correlation? Years ago doctors used to say that food had no impact on acne, now they say the opposite. They used to recommend accutane. Now accutane’s been pulled from the market. Don’t buy into it. Find out what suits your skin and stick to it.

Accutane has not been pulled from the market. I’m on it right now.

My skin had finally started to clear up after so many years… then all of a sudden my acne is back. It took me while to piece it all together, but I realzed I started drinking cvofee every day just before my acne flared up again. I have NEVER been a coffee drinker in my entire life until now. So to test it out, I stopped drinking all coffee. It has been 2 weeks now and guess what- my skin is getting back to completely clear. So it IS TRUE. Cofee (or maybe the caffeine) DOES cause acne!

When i drank coffee, I won’t be supprise when acne started to grow from my clear skin. I experimented it by stop drinking coffee for another 2-3 day & my acne disappear. Need scientific explanation? I don’t need to.

I don’t believe caffeine can cause acne. I often drink coffee and there is no effect to my face. The truth is nuts or fatty food can trigger acne, I often experience that.
